How to generate osm files from osm2pgsql and apidb databases?

I want to create a OSM file from my rails app database openstreetmap-database or my database with the osm2pgsql schema.

I need to create for use in future imports using osmosis and osm2pgsql tools and for backup purposes.

I want something like the pgsql2shp tool for generate shp files.

Can anyone help me how to do this?
