GIS Technician

Project
Parsons looks forward to providing Operations & Maintenance management and supervision services for all O&M projects and contracts led by the Jeddah Municipality. We will coordinate and effectively manage the ongoing and up-coming Operations & Maintenance, renovation and improvement projects / contracts. It is our responsibility to provide complete O & M management services including: operations, maintenance, construction & maintenance management, supervision,
coordination, scheduling, administration, inspection, quality assurance materials testing, shop & as-built drawings and
O & M documents submittal review and approval coordination, project records, preparation of work or job orders,
checking of interim claims and its recommendations to Jeddah Municipality and settling of final accounts and close-out
documents for the multiple O & M project/s or contracts signed between Jeddah Municipality and Contractors /
consultants.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under close supervision, performs various Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technical support tasks. Translates and inputs existing data into a common format, including hardcopy maps, topographical maps, site plans, electronic maps, and Global Positioning System (GPS) data. This is the entry-level GIS position where the incumbent gains experience while developing professional job skills. Willingness to travel or relocate to the field site is expected.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Searches for and compiles field data based on project needs and specifications.

Digitizes point, linear, and polygonal features from paper maps into specified data formats. This includes the capture of attributes as well as feature topology.

Enters attribute data from tabular sources to populate project database.

Imports digital data from various sources to a project database. Imported data must often be converted from one format to another or from one projection (data definition) to another.

Produces mapping output from digital data to meet project specifications.

Produces report output from database utilizing an automated process, when feasible, to ensure reproducibility.

Documents work on assigned tasks and reports progress to immediate supervisor.

Updates metadata per project requirements using predetermined schema.

Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
Qualifications

Requirements
10+ years experience in GIS related works.
Degree or Diploma in relevant field from a recognized institution

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

4-year degree in Geography, Planning, Engineering, Computer Science or related curriculum (or equivalent) and 0-2 years related experience.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

A working knowledge of GIS software applications and programming is required. Also requires good written and oral communication skills. In addition, the incumbent must possess the following specific skills and competencies:

Working knowledge of computer systems used for GIS (either Microsoft Windows or UNIX).
Ability to copy files, create directories, etc.
Ability to use peripheral equipment common to GIS work (digitizer, plotter, scanner).
Ability to meticulously handle detailed data.
Ability to perform basic data entry and output functions within specific GIS software packages.
Ability to perform basic system administration tasks on appropriate operating system.
Ability to perform basic troubleshooting when specific hardware difficulties arise and work with technical phone support to resolve problems.
