Add vector icons and popups in openlayers 3.11

here's what I am working on:

It works great so far and now I want to put icons, or what we used to call "markers" on it. But I can't find any clear example of how to how to place simple static icons and generate popups using a geojson file. I was able to do this perfectly using openlayers 3.2, as in this example where you will be able to see the geojson I am using:

However the js code has changed in this regard since version 3.5 and all the examples pertaining to my specific case are now out of date. Can anyone show me how this would be done - adding both the markers themselves and the popups? Or could anyone simply point me to an example using openlayers 3.5 or higher? I would be immensely grateful, as others would be in the future.

I have really scoured the web and I can't figure this one out. And unfortunately, I am too inexperienced to make use of the more complex examples that are out there: I just need to do simple static markers and popups from a geojson file.
